Chapter 15 - Nikolai
There was underlying hate in the way Giselle looked at me, and it wasnât something Iâd seen before in her eyes.
Iâd seen fear and anger in them. Determination, but never hate.
My jaw clenched, and my heart wavered between wanting to comfort her and find out the reason she was so pissed, and just leaving her alone. Itâd been this way since that night Iâd come to the nerve-wracking realization that my emotions for Giselle went further than Iâd imagined.
It was something more than want. It was a need, and I hated it.
All my life, Iâd never needed anyone. My brothers and I had been here for each other, but Iâd never had this feeling that my entire being would fall apart if they werenât there. Why did I feel that way for Giselle?
My veins bulged with anger.
âIâll leave now,â Giselle said quietly and left the room without waiting for a response from me.
This wonât do. I hung my suit back on the rack, found a pair of fighting shorts and shirt, then I grabbed my phone from the nightstand and called Sergey.
âWhat do you want?â he answered. I heard Liliannaâs voice in the background and their sonâs giggles.
âI need to unleash my anger on something.â Or someone.
âMeet me at the ring in an hour. Iâll call Maxim too.â He hung up and I remained in the middle of the room, clenching my phone and trying to rid myself of the silly emotions.
An hour later, I met my brothers in the gym where we usually practiced. Maxim flashed an unhinged smile at me. The fucker probably knew what was going through my mind before I voiced it.
âAnother brother bites the dust,â he said, glancing sardonically between Sergey and me.
âShut up.â Sergey placed his gym bag on a bench across from the fighting ring. He unzipped it and took out a small towel he slumped over his neck. âWhereâs Giselle?â
âOut with Vlad. She wanted to register for prenatal.â
Sergey cocked his brows. âWhy arenât you with her instead?â
I tucked my hands in my boxing gloves and strapped them extra tight. âBecause I fucking have things to take care of.â The Italian bastard was still tucked away in my basement, along with her ex, Aemon or Almond. Whatever the fuck his name was.
Heâd made a grave mistake trying to touch what was mine.
I was meant to get some information out of the Italian today and torture Giselleâs ex until his arrogance faded away. Still, I couldnât with the adrenaline coursing through my veins. I would only end up killing them. Not that I minded, but I didnât kill until I got what I wanted.
Maxim shook his head as he climbed the ring. âYouâre an asshole, brother. No offense.â
I followed him and ducked between the ring ropes as I entered. âCall me an asshole one more time.â
Maxim curled his fists, ready to fight. âAsshole.â
âApologize!â
âMake me!â
We both lunged at each other, throwing punches and evading them equally. Maxim had gotten good at dodging my punches, but he wouldnât be able to keep up for long.
